Farewell to the giraffe
In March 2014, Mario, a terminally ill cancer patient, bid farewell to the animals at the Rotterdam Zoo where he had been a volunteer for almost 25 years. As soon as the giraffes saw Mario arrive in their enclosure, they approached to feel him, lovingly pressing their muzzles against his face. It was the Ambulance Wish Foundation in the Netherlands that made this move possible, as Mario could no longer stand up.
